McCaskie writes of the dry fly from long experience, dating back to 1895 on the Tweed, when this method was almost unknown in the North. He touches on some aspects of angling history and of individual rivers, but for the most part he is concerned to put forward a point of view which finds its expression in the title of the book. He deals more with theory than practice and touches on the behaviour of trout and how they think.
